Old wicker school now community showplace

The W.B. Wicker Business Campus opened in Sanford on Nov. 3 — after five years of hard work by Initiative grantee Brick Capital Community Development Corporation.

The opening marked a complete renaissance for the once-dilapidated building, which originally opened in 1927 as a school for Sanford's black community.

The newly opened business center will house a dental center, Central Carolina Community College's dental hygiene program, a childcare center and a tutorial business. Officials say a computer lab and a small business center are planned for the future.

At the formal re-opening on Nov. 3, hundreds of local officials, volunteers, residents and former Wicker School students gathered to witness the rebirth. Delighted attendees marveled at the gleaming new structure, which only a few years ago resembled an abandoned building. [Cont. Article]
