tribute
In Memory of
Mr. Howard J. Hunter, Jr.
December 16, 1946 - January 7, 2007

An Open Letter:
To The Family of Howard Hunter, Jr.

We join all of North Carolina in
mourning the loss of a truly great man…
Representative Howard Hunter, Jr.
who brought an upbeat spirit and
unrelenting energy to advancing both
the interest of his local constituency
and the interest of low income
individuals statewide. Representative Hunter was a genuine champion of
the Initiative and of the community
economic development industry.

As one of our founding board members,
the Initiative’s growth is directly tied
to Howard’s services in the North
Carolina General Assembly and his
willingness to “stand up and do the
right thing.” North Carolina will miss
Howard’s dedication, courage and
leadership...I will miss him personally
and professionally for his stellar
commitment and service.

We all have an obligation to honor his memory by continuing to stand up for
justice, to guard his legacy by continuing
to fight for those without voice and to
celebrate his life by continuing to provide
unselfish leadership through action.

On behalf of the Board and Staff, please accept our deepest sympathy,
