The NC Community Development Initiative has just released its 2015-16 Annual Report. Highlighting two years of growth, innovation, and strategic partnerships, the report illustrates the exciting opportunities and daunting challenges affecting the current statewide community economic development landscape.
“2015 and 2016 have been transformative years for the NC Community Development Initiative,” notes CEO Tara Kenchen. “New partnerships and new investment have dramatically broadened our ability to impact neighborhoods and communities that needed targeted community economic development.”
The new strategic collaborative with North Carolina Housing Coalition, for example, has already yielded benefits, including a model investment with Wake Habitat for Humanity that will expand their reach by 20% in 2017.
Other highlights include a loan to The Scrap Exchange in Durham to rebuild an abandoned shopping center and transform the neighborhood, and a new partnership with Bertie County to help rebuild the Hive House, a critical community education facility.
