Honoring the Legacy of Ms. Andrea Lynette Harris

The North Carolina Community Development Initiative is grieving the passing of one of its longtime friends and colleagues, Ms. Andrea Harris, who passed on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

Ms. Harris was a pioneer and champion dedicated to overcoming barriers to economic development and minority & women entrepreneurship.  In 1986, Harris co-founded The North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development and spent 25 years as its leader.  Her work and passion has left a monumental impact on North Carolina’s underserved populations and communities. The Initiative is so fortunate to have been a partner to Ms. Harris and The Institute. We will celebrate her life by continuing her work and legacy.

Ms. Harris will truly be missed by so many. The Initiative staff and board sends their prayers and deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.

With sincere sympathy,

The Initiative Staff and Board
